I have a website which I've verified through thumbtack and added to my profile, but when I go to my profile while logged out, my website isn't listed. Why is this?

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for getting in touch, and good question.
Have you tried logging into your account and viewing your profile? You'll be able to see your web address that way. Anyone that is logged in can see web addresses.
You're right, we restrict access to websites for users that aren't logged in to Thumbtack. There are a couple reasons for this, the most important of which is due to programs called 'bots' that 'scrape' websites from every profile on our site. We have received numerous complaints about this from other users who were suddenly inundated by spam after a bot scraped their web address, and then their email address. Ugh.
Thanks again, and we may need to change our policy about this in the future if we get too much push-back the other way.
Thanks!
~Heather

Hi Heather,
My website's URL is public information, just like my business phone. It's surprising that I could earn 30 points if I put a link to Thumbtack on my website, but Thumbtack won't return the favor. No one receives spam based on making their web address visible. I'd like Thumbtack to share a link to my URL http://www.dajuanjones.com too.
Thanks!

I concur with the others, my website is public information. Please make it visible to all on my page, Christi Sue Photography, always as well.
Thanks!

I agree with the others on this topic. My webpage is public information, as well as my business phone number and should be listed on my Thumbtack website so interested clients are able to contact me on their own if they so choose.
On my own website, I have tried to make using my services as simple as possible for my clients. I think clients appreciate that. I know that I personally am getting so tired of websites that insist that you "sign up," "register," or "become a member," which we all know is really only a ploy to get your information. I am so tired of having to "sign up" just to LOOK at a website or get any actual real information from it that I just move on.
If I want to look at your site and you want me to register to do so; I am outta here! I don't have time for that. I think my clients appreciate the same. I think my clients' time is very valuable and I don't intend to waste it. It seems that here on Thumbtack, that philosophy is practiced where potential clients cannot see all the information unless they "register" and "sign in." Ridiculous. That is a practice that more and more websites are using and I don't know about anyone else, but I just find it annoying and a waste of time. If I cannot see the information without "logging in" first, I find it to be a waste of my time, which I have very little to spare, and I will move on to a website that will give me the information I need without having to "log in."
I apologize for getting redundant here, I'm just hoping that I'm making my point.
And, as Dajuan Jones mentioned earlier, I too have listed a link to Thumbtack on my website and I agree that the gesture should be reciprocated. I don't required visitors on my website to "sign in" to see that Thumbtack link.
I am in agreement with all of the above comments. I can't think of one legitimate reason why our PUBLIC websites are not visible to EVERYONE - without logging in!
Maybe it's because thumbtack wants to discourage anyone to contact us directly in order to make their fees through a potential client's bid request.
I have gotten many leads for potential jobs from thumbtack, but by the time I respond, it's too late. Also, thumbtack wants a fee in order to even contact the person (commission is not offered for my services, which I don't understand). After paying, there are no guarantees that you will ever get a response or a job from that person. One could start losing quite a bit of money on leads that go nowhere before even getting the first job - if the first job even happens!
I'm not questioning thumbtack's reasons for fees, but shouldn't they find another way get their money - after the job?
On the whole, this has been a very unprofitable and discouraging experience for me.
As everyone else has stated, it's a very misleading practice, that of asking potential leads and new customers to sign up just so they could see the rest of a business' info. I have gone ahead and posted a link to thumbtack on my website and expect the same to be done for me as well. There are hundreds of people out there who are in need of voice over for their projects. Just show my website on my thumbtack page, already! It's: www.wix.com/myvotalent/vox
