Thumbtack Forums/FAQs for consumers/Testimonials and Reviews

What can I say about a person listed on Thumbtack?

Reviews are a great way to share your experience with the Thumbtack community.  They reward quality service providers and give everyone an incentive to put their best foot forward.  That said, the following types of content are best kept off of Thumbtack:

Inappropriate Content:  We strive to create a safe and trusted marketplace.  There is no room for threats, harassment, or hate speech on Thumbtack.

Promotion or Lead Generation:  This is about sharing your experience with a specific service professional, not promoting others.  There are plenty of other channels to do this.

Off Topic:  This isn't the place for rants about employment practices, political issues, or matters that don't address a consumer's experience.

When necessary, Thumbtack may remove content and block users that violate these community standards.

Being a business professional, I was looking for a Business Only cyber posting place, and you fit this need.  Thank you so much for providing a much needed, clean, appropriate business service.

Sincerely,

Can I leave a factual correct but negative review? I wanted to leave a review for the service provider who did not show up twice and then apparently "closed my request due to inactivity", but testimonials must be approved by the service provider themselves. Thumbtack reviews are useless.

Hi Robert,

Currently there are two types of reviews on our site:

1. testimonials - anybody can post a testimonial, but these are subject to the approval of the professional.

2. job reviews - only those who book a job through our site can post a job review. However, these are not subject to the approval of the professional and will automatically post to the profile immediately after being posted.

We've received a bunch of feedback like yours. We will soon be relaxing our rules a bit for 'job reviews', so that not only those people who book a service through our site, but also those people who simply correspond with someone through our site, can post a job review.

As you can imagine, this is a tough problem to tackle. If anybody could post any review on any profile without any kind of vetting system, all kinds of people would post all kinds of things - both true and false - to the profiles. Competitors would post bad things about people, people who had a bad day would post bad things about people, ex-lovers would post bad things about people, etc.

So we're doing the best we can to make reviews fair to the professionals while being useful to people like you.

Hope this helps, Robert!

Our Complete Music representative gave us a verbal confirmation for our DJ of choice for our reception date. He said the DJ was ours and he would not book the DJ with anyone else unless he first contacted us.He forwarded a contract to us. We continued to correspond with the representactive. After some days past, we notified the representative that the deposit would be sent. The representative informed us that he had booked our DJ of choice to another party however, they had others available.

Hi David,

That sounds really awful. Ugh.

I think I mentioned this above, but we'll soon be permitting consumers to leave reviews where the person who wanted to hire was a no-show. Hopefully this will help this awful problem.

Thanks again.

Heather , many times just forgetting something small like napkins send some people in acraze when they think they will get revenge and really do ruin a good vendor with lies and revenge . after all the hard work a vendor puts in to service etc one bad review stops the whole reason for being part of  a comunity such as yours .

a better way would be 3 bad reports in 180 day period or maybe just 2 than reveal to public .because that is a little much .

Hi Tony,

That's a great point. This is definitely a balance.

I like your idea a lot - only reveal bad reports if there are two or more within some time period.

Another possibility we're considering is allowing you to publicly respond to all comments - both good and bad. What would you think of that?

Thanks guys!

Heather-

I look forward to a new way to leave feedback/reviews/etc and am glad you are working on it.

Like many potential customers/consumers on here, I had a positive, detailed exchange with

a potential service provider and arranged a mutually agreed upon time for him to come to my

apartment for an estimate. Well, he never showed. Never contacted me to explain why he

never showed, and never responded to my numerous inquiries following his no show to

discover what happened and choose another time.

This has been an extremely frustrating experience, and I wish there was some way to

share this frustrating experience so that others interested in this service provider can

have some fair warning.

Brendan,

That experience sounds really awful. Ugh. Really sorry that happened.

I know this doesn't help your current situation, but our engineers tell me we'll be introducing our new review system at the end of this week or at the beginning of next week. So we definitely hear everyone's concerns.

Thanks again Brendan - and sorry about the experience.

Heather,  I'm a poster of services on thumbtack and would be very pleased with the two strikes option but I think the vendor should get a "heads-up" and the opportunity to do right by the customer.  I offer dog training services and I really stay on top of my customer services and pride myself  on giving more than the customer pays for.

Hi , I was wondering how to post a review.  I just had a job completed by one of your listed services and wanted to compliment the service provider.

What can be done about abusive people who write mean and insulting things about you when I did was give them a quote. This has happened twice to me now. People can not just harass you because they did not like your quote. I feel this is just a site where people are looking for a dirt cheap price. I do CUSTOM FURNITURE there is nothing cheap about it. I know I should just rise above it but when you are paying for a lead and all you get out of it iare insults it kind of de motivating. How can someone who is looking for a quote be designed leaving bad feedback. I do not believe I should be given bad reviews for Charing more than someone is willing to pay. Just say no thank you and keep looking. There needs to be a button that says yes I like your price let's talk further, and one that just says no thanks. It's just ridiculous now.
