I am a bronze member. Why should I want to be gold?

I believe it will push you up in the search results on thumbtack and it also helps to set you apart from other members, besides who doesn't love gold!?

You get pushed up higher in the Thumbtack listings.

Hi guys, great question. John and Jessica are correct -- the more points you have the higher you'll show up in search results which means you'll get more more exposure to potential customers.

For example, check out this landing page: http://www.thumbtack.com/ca/san-francisco/handyman/

You can see that the #1 handyman listed has 131 points. The #2 provider has 93 points. Etc.

More points = more love from Thumbtack. :)

Provider (API Checked)

Heather, I have a question.  I have 137 thumbtack points and have extensively built up my thumbtack ad to a gold account.  My competitor placed 2 seperate ads for 1 business (spam), both listing are bronze and thumbtack awarded him the elite thumbtack service provider status.  How does this make sense?

Provider (API Checked)

Heather, I have the same question; I have 102 thumbtack points and have extensively built up my thumbtack ad to a gold account.  My competitor listing are bronze and thumbtack awarded him the elite thumbtack service provider status.  And not only that I am the only service provider in my City, but I come in at #23 on the list and many other DJ's are ahead of me on the listings with less or no reviewed (I have 7) and I'm a Gold and they are all Bronze.?????? Please email me bellairemusic@myfairpoint.net

I look forward to seeing the answer to Rick's and Mike's question.

Also, when I go to search and type in Reiki for Lynn MA, I get a list but there are no points indicated with each listing, and I don't see a 'sort by' button either.  ??

Hi Mike, Rick, and Starr - you're right, our search results are a bit confusing.

Here's what's going on:

We have two different kinds of search on our site.

The first type is a search like this: http://www.thumbtack.com/search?pagenum=1&search_source=header&keyword=reiki&location=Lynn%2C+MA

That search doesn't include points, sorts, etc.

The second type is a search like this: http://www.thumbtack.com/ma/boston/reiki/

This second type is called a 'landing page' - it is created for consumers who visit our site from search engines.

The elite providers are the ones who are listed on our 'landing pages'.

Not everyone gets listed on a landing page. Whether we have a landing page for your area and profession is determined by a fairly complex algorithm developed by our engineers. That algorithm takes into account many things, including the number of other people in your profession and area, the population of nearby cities, how many Thumbtack points you and others have, and the amount of traffic Google has in your area for your profession.

It can take up to three months after you post for our engineers to determine whether you will be listed on a landing page.

If you are listed - we'll send you an email about that.

Sorry this is so confusing, and sorry there's not much you can do about it! We are really at the mercy of Google on this one. :-)

Thanks for the explanation Heather.  I was also wondering why I couldn't see anyone else's points in my area.

Hi Anita,

We don't actually show the exact number of points that people have on their listing.

We do show, however, whether they are a 'bronze', 'silver', or 'gold' member - that's a general indication of the number of points someone has. I think bronze = 50 points, silver = 75 points, gold = 100 points.

For example, this person in your area is a bronze member: http://www.thumbtack.com/ga/mauk/real-estate-agents/real-estate-broker-marketing-house-sales-services

Hope this helps!

Maybe it's just my profession (Realtor), which is numbers driven, but showing the points might encourage more participation...I'd venture to say many are motivated to be #1...showing the numbers would make the climb seem more attainable.  It might even plus up revenue for Thumbtack for the items that require $$$ to gain points for (Web URL, background check (beyond basic).  Just an observation.  ;-)
