Is it safe to store my credit card on Thumbtack?

In a word: yes.

Here's what happens when you 'store' a credit card with us:

1. We pass the credit card information to the partner we have chosen to process all credit card payments on our site, Braintree Payment Solutions. Braintree Payment Solutions is one of the premier payment processing sites that exists - last year they processed more than a billion dollars in payments. Braintree is a Validated Level 1 PCI DSS Compliant Service Provider, the highest level of security possible.

2. We don't actually 'store' your credit card information on our site. We just 'pass' it to Braintree through a secure link.

3. Braintree stores the credit card information in their secure credit card vault.

4. Braintree gives us a 'token' that is connected to your credit card. If we ever need to charge your credit card in the future (like if you receive a new job through our site), we send Braintree that 'token' and ask them to charge the card. Braintree never passes the credit card information to us.

5. You are free to delete your credit card from Braintree's vault at any time. You can simply log in to your account and click 'delete' - your credit card information will then be permanently deleted and we will have no access to it or record of it.

6. Your credit card information is completely inaccessible to Thumbtack's engineers and employees throughout this entire process.

You can see our verification with Braintree here, and here is our Braintree verification button:
